Apartment Review
Cute apartment, Horrible Management
Review Date: 2/22/2010 Reviewer: Anonymous
I lived at 1941 Aldrich Ave, in Minneapolis, for 2 years. When I moved in, I thought the apartment was so cute... but the Management was a nightmare. One winter, our building was condemned for not having any heat (2007). The next winter (2008), UPI refused to turn the heat on until they "felt it was cold enough." So we had a few 30 degree weeks with no heat in October and November. Finally, I called the fire marshall and they laid on the pressure to turn our heat on (law states that when the heat drops below 68 degrees, the heat must go on. UPI claimed they were not aware of this law)... Many nights, my boyfriend and I would sit and watch TV in our winter puffer jackets, it was so cold. When a problem occurs, the staff acts dumb-founded. When you state housing laws to them, they claim to be unaware of the laws... They obviously hope their tenants are too dumb and naive to know their rental rights. Certain people working there are very rude and disorganized... They act kind to you so you will rent their units, and they turn on you once you are living there. My windows were rotting and drafty. I would lay in bed at night and feel the cold winter air blowing through them, my curtains would actually move with the wind when the windows were closed. Plastic coverings were difficult to adhere to the decaying window frames... The building was filthy... The laundry room was very scary, I never felt safe doing laundry. When I first moved in, my refrigerator was broken (I did not get a new one until after a week of living there. After I called, and called, and called, they finally brought me a used fridge from another apartment...with some one else's food crumbs still inside). Centipedes, Other strange bugs...Mice... The floor boards did not connect completely to the walls, so bugs were always coming up from beneath the floor. This management company is a joke! Look elsewhere. I have a beautiful apartment now in St. Paul, for the same price, and I love it. It's a palace compared to my old UPI apartment. |
